72 & 74 DUNLOP STREET

TEMPORIUM is a pop-up store, diner and gallery housed on Dunlop street in quaint Little India, the ethnic quarter of Singapore. Spotlighting two conservation houses in a charming area, this historical backdrop will play host to a selection of designers, craftsmen and artists. With close to 4000 sqft spread over two levels, one can expect to shop ranging from fashion to books, enjoy a cup of artisan coffee, attend exhibitions and workshops all under one roof. It is upon this platform that several homegrown brands, including Papa Palheta, Wild Rocket and BooksActually, can come together for unique pairings and cross collaborations, thereby delivering new experiences for visitors in a colourful neighbourhood.

The area is a charming mix of old and new. Authentic Indian food, henna and haircuts are offered alongside restaurants, bars, backpacker hostels and boutique hotels. Wanderlust, a member of Design HotelsTM, is just next door on a parallel street.
By day, it is a laidback beacon of charm where locals go about their trades and tourists mill the streets. By night, it transforms into a bustling area for merry‑makers.

TEMPORIUM’s concept diner is a tri-collaboration headlined by artisanal coffee brewers Papa Palheta, ceramics collective Weekend Worker, and Chef Wilin Low of Wild Rocket restaurant. Arriving at the cozy space, a specially designed menu is served across an array of ceramic wares on a wooden tray. The whole experience centres around one’s tactile connection with food, as his or her fingers feel the different textures of the don buri bowls or ceramic coffee cups, such that the sense of touch and tactility translates into a memorable dining experience.

TEMPORIUM IS A SELF-INITIATED PROJECT BETWEEN CREATIVE STUDIO, TOFU, AND BOUTIQUE DEVELOPER, BREEZEWAY. ONE WAS LOOKING TO INJECT SOMETHING EXCITING INTO THE AREA, THE OTHER WAS SEEKING THE NEXT INSPIRATION. A PARTNERSHIP ROOTED IN EXCITING POSSIBILITIES, THEY INTEND FOR TEMPORIUM TO BE AN ANNUAL EVENT SPOTLIGHTING NOSTALGIC ARCHITECTURE AND CONTEMPORARY DESIGN.

Breezeway

Established in 1980, Breezeway specialises in conservation and heritage properties, including award-winning Sandalwood. A luxury residence on Tembeling Road, it was designed by renowned architect Chan Soo Khian of SCDA. A row of conservation shophouses that were restored and refurbished beautifully, this project garnered the 2005 URA Architectural Heritage Award, and the 2006 architectural award by Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). TEMPORIUM is Breezeway’s first retail design initiative partnered with a creative studio. Moving forward, it is their vision to create more unique lifestyle pockets anchored by nostalgic architecture, doing their bit to contemporise and preserve these precious pieces of Singapore’s history.
